In a move to help the nation’s street vendors, the Modi government has signed a memorandum of understanding with food delivery platform Swiggy.
The agreement signed between the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and Swiggy will ensure presence of street food vendors on the e-commerce platform, giving them access to thousands of untapped consumers.
The initiative is a part of Prime Minister Street Vendor’s AtmaNibhar Nidhi Scheme. To begin, the government and the food delivery platform will run a pilot program by including 250 vendors in Ahmedabad, Chennai, Delhi, Indore, and Varanasi.
The vendors will get help for PAN and FSSAI registration as well as other training needed for using Swiggy.
