Nick Jonas and Paul Rudd have teamed up for 'Power Ballad', a musical comedy by John Carney, known for helming 'Once' and 'Sing Street.' The filming for the upcoming project has already begun in Dublin. Made under the banner of t30WEST and Anthony Bregman’s Likely Story, the film will be produced by Treasure Entertainment’s Robert Walpole and Rebecca O’Flanagan.
'Power Ballad' was written by Carney and Peter McDonald. The official synopsis for the film reads, "An uplifting music-driven story about a wedding singer, a rock star, and the song that comes between them." The film is also expected to be screened at Cannes 2924, as 30WEST, WME Independent, and UTA Independent Film Group are preparing for its premiere at the film festival later this month.
Expressing his excitement over the project, John Carney said, “I’m delighted to be working with so many great people. I’ve been working on this script with my buddy Peter for years, and now Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas are in my kitchen."
On the other hand, Alex Walton of WME praised John Carney and told Deadline, “Power Ballad is fun and heartwarming—themes that audiences crave today. His unique vision, coupled with the global appeal of Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas, will give buyers exactly what they’re looking for."
Both Jonas and Rudd are well-known for their roles in films and television. Jonas has been part of shows like 'Camp Rock,' 'Scream Queens,' 'Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,' and 'Jersey Boys Live!' Rudd has 'Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire', 'Only Murders in the Building', and 'Knocked Up', among others to his credit.
