Director SS Rajamouli is currently basking in the success of his latest release 'RRR', starring Jr NTR, Ram Charan, and Alia Bhatt. The magnum opus is being displayed across the US in the run-up to Oscars 2023. The director attended a special screening of the film in New York City and addressed the comparison between 'RRR' and 'Mahabharata'.
Rajamouli said that he always wanted to tell Indian stories with a Hollywood touch as he is highly influenced by films like, 'Gladiator' and 'Braveheart'. Talking about the comparison, he said that what he has managed to do with 'RRR' is ‘minuscule’ of what a 'Mahabharata' adaptation would need.
'But the kind of imagery that I have in my head for the Mahabharata, I think I need more time, I need to learn more film craft to get it on the screen,' said the director.
Earlier this year, in an exclusive interview with Mint, he confirmed 'Mahabharata' being his ‘dream project.'
'RRR' was released on March 24 this year and the film continues to do wonders at the box office. The Film Federation of India didn’t send 'RRR' as India’s official entry to the Oscars in the Best International Feature category. But, the distributors have now submitted ‘RRR’ in 15 categories for consideration, including Best Picture and Best Director.
