The late actor Rishi Kapoor's last film 'Sharmaji Namkeen', is all set to be released later this month. The veteran actor died in April 2020, whilst the film's shoot hadn't been finished. The veteran actor Paresh Rawal eventually stepped in to play Rishi Kapoor's character in the film.

In a video message posted by the film's producer Farhan Akhtar on social media, Rishi's son-actor Ranbir Kapoor spoke about why the film is special to him and also recounted that he even considered using prosthetics to finish the film at one point.

In the video, Ranbir Kapoor is seen saying that the film isn't special to him just because it was his father's last film. He revealed that Rishi ji really believed in the story. He recalled how, when Rishi fell sick in the middle of the shoot, he wanted to complete the shoot… but life had other plans.

Ranbir Kapoor even went on to say that how the film was put on hold after Rishi Kapoor's death on April 30, 2020. Ranbir said that the producers and the family considered many options, including visual effects and even having him to replace his father! Ranbir was all praises for Paresh Rawal, who stepped in at the last minute to help complete the film. He said that it was very generous of Paresh Rawal to take up this challenge because two different actors playing the same character is extremely rare in the film industry. He then urged the fans to give the film the same love they have given to Rishi's other films.

'Sharmaji Namkeen' is a film about the life of a recently retired man who discovers his passion for cooking after joining a riotous women’s kitty circle. The film has been directed by Hitesh Bhatia and produced by Excel Entertainment in association with MacGuffin Pictures.

The trailer of the film will be released on Thursday, March 17. The film also features Juhi Chawla, Suhail Nayyar, Taaruk Raina, Satish Kaushik, Sheeba Chaddha, and Isha Talwar. It will release on Amazon Prime Video on March 31.
