Veteran actor Asha Parekh has once again spoken in favor of Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Pathaan.’
She said the film needs to have a ‘smooth release’ which will help revive Bollywood’s ‘low phase.’
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, the Dadasaheb Phalke award winner said, ‘Our industry has never gone through such a bad phase. I’ve been part of it for more than sixty years. I have never seen such a low phase in the history of the industry. Pathaan needs to be released without any hindrance.’
She also added that Yash Raj Films has ‘suffered a series of blows’ and that they ‘can’t afford another one.’
YRF releases like Shamshera, Samrat Prithviraj and Jayeshbhai Jordaar could not do well on the box office.
The film’s song ‘Besharam Rang’ has been facing a lot of backlash over Padukone's costumes since the day of its release
Parekh said that if song is a problem, then they should remove it. ‘Let them remove the song, if that’s what it takes to ensure a smooth release for Pathaan,’ adding though that she was against such ‘bullying’
The actor also talked about the costumes of the actors saying that ‘no community can claim ownership over any colour.’
Amid ongoing controvery over Pathaan, the future of the film which is slated for be released on January 25 remains unclear.
The film is directed by Siddharth Anand.
