The newly-launched Vande Bharat Express train in West Bengal faced a second stone-pelting attack in two days.

Rocks were thrown at a Vande Bharat train in north Bengal on 3 January 2023, and two window panes in two coaches were damaged. A day earlier, the train was attacked in Malda, and the glass pane on a coach door suffered major cracks due to the impact of the stones.

While an FIR has been lodged over the incidents, an awareness campaign has also been started to prevent the recurrence of such incidents, an official said.

The Vande Bharat Express between Howrah and New Jalpaiguri was inaugurated on 30 December 2022 by PM Narendra Modi. Commercial operations began on 1 January 2023.
