Covid-19: 138 cases of Delta plus variant detected in Tripura

Tripura has become the first state in the northeast to report a Delta plus case after at least 138 of the 151 Covid-19 samples sent by the state govt for genome sequencing tested positive for the variant, according to State Health Surveillance Officer Dr Deep Kumar Debbarma. 

A total weekend curfew in 13 urban local bodies, in addition to the ongoing partial day and night curfew has been announced by the Tripura govt to curb the spread of the disease. The new Covid restrictions will come into force from 12 pm on Saturday and will remain till 6 am on Monday. The ongoing partial day and night curfew has been extended till July 17.

Tripura has so far recorded 69,550 Covid-19 cases with an overall positivity rate of 5.15% and its current daily positivity rate is 6.62%.
