The Ministry of Civil Aviation on Thursday released draft drone guidelines, 2021, for public consultation before replacing the Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) rules issued in March this year. According to a report by the Hindustan Times, the policy was fine-tuned during a high-level meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month after the drone attack at the Jammu air force station.

The new drone rules have abolished the previous requirement of certain criteria, like the unique authorization number, unique prototype identification number, import clearance, acceptance of existing drones, operator permits, authorization of R&D organization, and others, according to the report.
The rules also reduced the number of forms from 25 to 6 and fees to nominal levels, irrespective of the size of the drone.
A digital sky platform, demarcated by green, yellow, and red zones, will be created as a business-friendly single-window online system with a minimal human interface.
No flight permission or pilot license will be required up to 400 feet in green zones.
