Mcdonald's has shut its operations in Russia amid growing pressure on social media.

The burger giant announced Tuesday it was temporarily closing 850 locations in Russia, however, the company would continue to pay its 62,000 employees in the country. McDonald's has also shut temporarily its 100 locations in the war-hit Ukraine.

Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and coffee chain Starbucks also announced suspending their operations in Russia. 

U.S. food companies and fast-food chains were facing immense criticism over social media platforms and from large investors to halt operations in Russia.

Tech behemoths like Apple and luxury retailers like Hermès had closed their stores in Russia earlier.
