Bengal political circles are abuzz with the speculation of BJP vice president Mukul Roy switching back to the Trinamool Congress. Media reports quoting sources said that the high profile ghar wapasi is set to happen soon.
Roy who had joined the BJP in 2017 triggered the speculation of going back to the TMC after Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee visited his ailing wife at a Kolkata hospital.
The very next day PM Modi called Roy, a move viewed by many as BJP’s desperation to salvage the party’s state unit.
The former Railway Minister also skipped a meeting in Kolkata this week called by Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh. He had missed another meeting of BJP legislators called by Ghosh on May 7. Roy's absence in the BJP's feedback and review meet has also fuelled speculation of an imminent rift between him and Suvendu Adhikari.
Roy is not alone. Dipendu Biswas, Sonali Guha, Sarla Murmu, Amol Acharya , Prabir Ghosal are among the others who have expressed their "unhappiness" with the BJP. Many turncoats have apologised to Mamata Banerjee for leaving the party.
