As WFH continues for many Google unveiled a platform that lets its workers calculate salary for work from home option which is different than the office pay the employee would draw and also dependent on area they are choosing to work in.
Google's new tool is called "Work Location Tool", the platform adjusts the employee's compensation to match the cost of living in the chosen work location. CNET reported that if an employee were to request a transfer out of a metropolis like New York or San Francisco, the Work Location Tool will reduce their salary accordingly.
Google spokesperson was quoted saying that the tool will "allow all employees to request to move to a new location, or even go remote."
Google, which employs some 140,000 people worldwide, expects that in the post-pandemic work model 60 percent of its employees will meet in offices just a few days a week, and 20 percent of its workers will be in new office locations. The remaining 20% of "Googlers" are expected to work from home, according to the spokesperson.
