A man who spent 18 days at sea, trying to reach India from Thailand by rowing a small, rubber dinghy, was recently rescued by the Thai Navy.
Ho Huang Hung, who is Vietnamese, set off from Phuket on March 5, with some water, and instant noodles to cover 2,000 km to India. He wanted to meet his wife in Mumbai, after spending two years apart due to Covid-related curbs.

However, on March 23, his boat was found near the Similan Islands, around 80 km off the Thai coast. Some fishermen spotted Ho, and contacted the Thai Navy. The Navy's maritime security unit reportedly rescued Ho.

The 37-year-old was found with around 10 packets of dry food, instant noodles, and a small bucket of drinking water in the boat. He had initially travelled to Bangkok by air, but couldn't go on to India as he did not have a visa. Subsequently, he went to Phuket by bus, and bought the dinghy.
