It's yet another case of racism against India-Americans. And this time, the target is a prominent politician.
Indian-origin Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal on 9 September 2022 tweeted shocking audio clips of threatening phone calls that she has been receiving. The calls were full of abusive content, and the caller even asked Jayapal to return to India.
Jayapal, who was born in Chennai, is the first-ever Indian-American Congresswoman who represents Seattle in the US House of Representatives. In July 2022, an armed man was arrested from outside Jayapal's house.
Regarding the racist calls, the Indian-American lawmaker said, "Typically, political figures don't show their vulnerability. I chose to do so here because we cannot accept violence as our new norm. We also cannot accept the racism and sexism that underlies and propels so much of this violence."
