Pakistan: stampedes over food shortage; deaths, injuries as people clash to get subsidised wheat, flour

Pakistan is facing a major food crisis, and the situation is so dire that stampedes are breaking out among desperate people, according to reports. With wheat and flour in huge shortage, there is high demand for subsidised bags being provided by the government.

A labourer died in Mirpurkhas, while two women and a girl were injured in Sakrand during the chaos. Meanwhile, amid a clash in Pishtakhara, a person died during a clash over the price of bread.

In Karachi, flour prices have risen to Rs 140-160 per kg. In Islamabad and Peshawar, flour is being sold at Rs 140-150 per kg.
