A day after 3 Chinese nationals died in a suicide bombing in Karachi, China issued a strong statement, asking Pakistan to take action. Beijing said that the blood of Chinese cannot be shed in vain, and those behind the attack will pay the price.
The Chinese government expressed strong condemnation and great indignation at the incident, and asked Pakistan to beef up security of Chinese nationals in the country. Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Jianghao also made a phone call to the Pakistani Ambassador to China to express "extremely grave concern".
Beijing called on Islamabad to conduct a thorough probe, punish the perpetrators, and prevent such attacks in the future.
Meanwhile, fresh information surfaced regarding the suicide bomber, a member of the Balochistan Liberation Army. Shari Baloch, the Karachi attacker, had reportedly volunteered to be a suicide bomber 2 years ago, and finalised the plan for the attack 6 months ago.
Pakistani media reports said that Shari Baloch had been a student at the Karachi university. She reportedly had a Masters degree in Zoology and an MPhil in education.
The attack occurred near the Confucius Institute at the Karachi University on April 26. Three Chinese nationals, working at the Confucius Institute, and their Pakistani driver died in the blast near their van.
