A powerful earthquake of 6.8-magnitude rattled China's southwestern Sichuan province on Monday, the China Earthquake Centre said.
The epicentre was located at Luding, a town full of mountains at a depth of 16 km.
Seven people were killed after landslides were triggered due to the quake leading to power interruptions, HT reported quoting state broadcaster CCTV.
The powerful quake was also felt in the provincial capital, Chengdu, where a recent COVID-19 outbreak has restricted most of its residents to their compounds under China's strict “zero-COVID” policy.
A team of rescue workers was dispatched from Sichuan Fire and Rescue Corps at the epicentre to check for damages, and seven teams with a total of 530 earthquake relief forces for the rescue. More details awaited.
