Former American astronaut Buzz Aldrin's jacket from the historic moon mission with Neil Armstrong has been auctioned at a record value of $2.8m. It is the most valuable American space artefact to be auctioned.
Sold to an unidentified bidder at a whopping $2,772,500 by New York-based Sotheby's, the jacket also becomes the only piece of clothing ever from the 1969 Apollo 11 moon mission to have been sold.

Features like fire-resistant beta cloth used in the jacket with Aldrin's name inscribed is what perhaps led to the buyer wanting to own this jacket.
It's one of the several other belongings that the 92-year-old former astronaut has put up for sale including a flight plan that was bought for $819,000.
