Amid debates over religious extremism and radicalisation in Kerala, the ruling CPI(M) said 'deliberate attempts are being made to lure youth into communalism and extremist ideologies'.

CPI(M) urged both the student union and youth organisation to pay special attention to the issue.

Further, the party added in its note that deliberate attempts were being made to turn the Christian community against the Muslims in the state.

The issue gained prominence when Bishop Joseph Kallarangatt in a sermon said 'Christian girls are falling prey to the alleged love and narcotic jihad in Kerala'.
