Violent clashes erupted between BJP and the CPI(M)’s student union DYFI in Tripura on Wednesday.
The riots took place in Udaipur town of Gomati district of Tripura when the Democratic Youth Federation of India, the youth wing of the CPI(M), took out a procession during which some activists allegedly attacked the ruling BJP worker, leaving him seriously injured
Police said a group of BJP activists, who were camping nearby, retaliated by attacking the DYFI procession.
The CPM offices in Agartala, Bishalgarh and Kathalia were reportedly vandalized while a vehicle belonging to the former Left Front minister Ratan Bhowmick was set on fire. After the violence, CPM leader Sitaram Yechury tweeted an arson video and accused the BJP.
Police said the injured BJP activist from Udaipur was in critical condition and was shifted to G.B Pant Hospital in Agartala. A large police contingent had to be deployed to disperse the mob and prevent further riots.
