With the Omicron-fuelled third wave continuing to spread in the country, the Vice President of India became the latest high-profile person to get infected.
The Vice President's secretariat tweeted the news. M. Venkaiah Naidu is currently in Telangana's Hyderabad. His office said that he has gone into self-isolation for a week. Naidu also appealed to people who had recently come in contact with him to isolate themselves and get tested.

On January 23, India reported over 3.33 lakh new infections, recorded in a span of 24 hours. It was a slight decrease from 3.37 lakh new cases seen a day earlier. The daily positivity rate saw a slight increase from 17.22% on January 22 to 17.78% on January 23.
The country's active caseload stands at 21.87 lakh, with the recovery rate at 93.18%.
