Devotees celebrated Holi at Varanasi's Manikarnika Ghat, where they smeared each other with dry colours and ash around burning pyres.

According to tradition, the ash is collected from the pyres on the occasion of Rangbhari Ekadashi and celebrated at the Mahashmashan cremation ground.

The day starts with devotees offering their prayers at the temple of Mahashamashan Nath.

People around the country have been urged to follow Covid-19 protocols amid a surge in cases.
