US firm to donate 4.5 lakh vials of Remdesivir to India amid shortage

US drugmaker Gilead Sciences has said it will donate 4.5 lakh vials of Remdesivir to the Indian government as Covid-19 cases surge in the country. The company has also said that is taking several steps to further expand the availability of the anti-viral drug in India.

India is witnessing a huge shortage of Remdesivir amid rising demand due to Covid cases. Remdesivir is approved in India for restricted emergency use fovidOVID-19 in adults and children hospitalised with severe disease.
