Uttar Pradesh police has filed a case against news website, The Wire in Barabanki over a documentary on the demolition of a mosque. The authorities said it was an "unauthorised structure" and that was the ground for demolition.
The Wire has been accused of "promoting enmity" and holding an "intent to cause riot".
Barabanki District Magistrate Adarsh Singh in a video statement on Twitter said: "the news portal shared a video on June 23 that makes baseless, false statements and illogical arguments.’
Apart from the naming the news portal, the FIR also names two journalists working with the website.
This comes days after a case was filed against the online news platform over tweets linked to the alleged assault of a Muslim man in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad.
In a statement, The Wire's founding editor Siddharth Varadarajan said the portal will "not be intimidated" and that this case is "baseless".
