Union Minister Piyush Goyal has been named as the Leader of House for NDA in Rajya Sabha, news agency PTI reported quoting sources.
He will replace Thaawarchand Gehlot, who has been appointed as the Governor of Karnataka.
A Member of Parliament since 2010, Goyal is currently the deputy leader of the NDA in the Upper House. He also holds the portfolios of commerce and industry, food and consumer affairs, and textiles in Prime Minister’s Cabinet.
Congress in the Lower House is also looking for a replacement for Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary. Media reports quoting sources suggest that Rahul Gandhi, Manish Tewari, Shashi Tharoor, Gaurav Gogoi, Ravneet Singh Bittu and Uttam Kumar Reddy are in the fray to be the leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha.
The monsoon session of the Parliament will begin on July 19.
