Twitter on Sunday said it appointed Vinay Prakash as its Resident Grievance Officer. The US-based social media giant has been locked in a bitter standoff with the govt over its alleged failure to comply with the new IT rules in India.
The appointment was announced after a rap by the Delhi High Court, which left Twitter without legal immunity in the country for content carried on its platform. The Delhi High Court had said, that Centre was free to take action against Twitter for non-compliance of new IT rules.

The new rules mandate, among other requirements, the appointment of three key personnel — chief compliance officer, nodal officer and grievance officer by social media platforms with over 50 lakh users. All the three personnel have to be residents in India.
Twitter has also published its compliance report for the period of May 26 to June 25, 2021. This is another key requirement under the new IT rules.
