MC Mary Kom’s achievement list is long & illustrious. Magnificent Mary, as she is fondly called will battle for her first Olympic gold in her last Olympic appearance.
She has a record 8 world championship medals and the journey began 20 years ago in 2001 when she at age of 19 won her first medal at World Championships. The Silver was followed by a Gold in 2002 and Mary was literally unbeatable till 2018. With a total of 6 gold, 1 silver, and a bronze medal, the boxer is the most successful women pugilist in the sport. In 2012, Mary came close to achieving Gold at the Olympics but fate would have its way and she settled for a bronze.
She missed the bus to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics but roared back to form and made the cut for the 2020 Tokyo Games. With Silver at the Asian Championship this year under her belt, Mary is determined to improve her Olympics performance as the entire nation will be expecting Gold from the legendary boxer in Tokyo.
