On a day filled with disappointment for India at Tokyo 2020, 23-year-old Lovlina Borgohain raised some spirits as she qualified for the boxing quarterfinals of the Women’s welterweight division on Tuesday.
Assam’s first-ever Woman boxer at the Summer Games defeated Germany’s experienced boxer Nadine Apetz 3-2 in a tense contest in the last 16 stage bout. Borgohain became the first Indian among her 9 members strong team to enter into the quarterfinal stage and is now just a win away from sealing a medal for her nation.
She will now face former world champion and 4th seed Chen Nien Chin in the quarter-final on July 30.
