Tokyo Olympics 2020: Can Elavenil Valarivan hit the bullseye for India?

Elavenil Valarivan is another star in the making who is in Tokyo with her eyes set to win a Gold. Trained by Olympic Bronze Medalist Gagan Narang, Elavenil is a gold medal prospect in the women’s 10m air rifle event.

21-year-old Valarivan who comes from Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu was first introduced to shooting at the age of 14. The star in the making won her first individual gold in the senior category at the 2019 Asian Airgun Championship. Apart from this, Valarivan has also won 4 Junior World Cups and a silver at the 2018 juniors’ World Championship. She made heads turn when after being promoted to the senior level where she bagged two World Cup Gold medals in 2019.

Earlier this year, Valarivan and Divyansh Singh Panwar won Gold medal in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event at the World Cup Delhi and the 21-year-old will be hoping to carry that form to the shooting range in Tokyo where she aspires to bring home India’s 2nd shooting Olympic Gold after Abhinav Bindra.
