The Ministry of Civil Aviation on Friday allowed the Telangana government to use drones for the delivery of vaccines on an experimental basis.
Telangana has been granted a conditional exemption from the Unmanned Aircraft System rules for a year.
The Telangana govt stated that the state is focussing on leveraging emerging technologies for transporting vials to remote locations through the 'Medicine From The Sky' initiative.
As per the Aviation ministry, the nod for the delivery of the vaccines in MFTS trials will only be done within the Visual Line of Sight range for a year.
The Telangana IT dept said that each drone would carry a combination of dummy vials and regular vaccines over the course of the trials and the performance will be recorded in detail.
