A new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman have revealed that Apple is in discussions with Google to integrate its Gemini artificial intelligence engine into the upcoming iPhone 16 series.

This marks a significant move by Apple to catch up in the rapidly evolving AI landscape of 2024.

Apple's Pursuit of AI Advancements

While industry leaders like Google and Samsung have already embedded AI features into their products, Apple's endeavors in this arena have been perceived as somewhat lagging.

However, the potential collaboration with Google is expected to change this perception, signaling a strategic intent to bolster AI capabilities.

Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, outlined the company's focus on generative AI for 2024, affirming its commitment to unlocking transformative opportunities for its users.

Apple has been actively conducting trials of its proprietary large language model, Ajax, as well as experimenting with a rudimentary chatbot named Apple GPT.

Despite this, it is evident that Apple's technology currently trails behind that of its competitors, making a partnership arrangement with Google more pragmatic.

Notably, Apple's proactive approach to AI development is evident in its acquisition of 32 AI companies last year. This surpasses the acquisition numbers of Google and Meta, underscoring Apple's commitment to enhancing its AI capabilities across its range of products and services.

AI Enhancements in iOS 18

The integration of Google's Gemini model into the iPhone 16 series is anticipated to yield significant AI enhancements in iOS 18. Apple's plans include leveraging advanced language models to improve Siri and the Spotlight search tool, enabling more accurate responses to complex queries.

Furthermore, AI-driven features are expected to augment various applications such as Apple Music, Keynote, Health, Messages, Numbers, Pages, and Shortcuts.

This concerted effort underscores Apple's commitment to infusing AI into its ecosystem, promising a more intuitive and seamless user experience.
