According to Apple's official website, the new iOS 17 update is only available for iPhone models released in 2018 or later.

This is consistent with Apple's normal update policy, under which iPhones receive five years of new iOS versions.

The iPhone X and iPhone 8 series were released in 2017, therefore they're past their prime.

When it comes to iOS 17, it includes several important improvements such as Standby Mode, an upgraded Messages app, Live Voicemail, and the new Journal app

The Messages app on iOS 17 now includes features such as audio message transcription and a Check-In tool that notifies you when contacts reach home safely.

Incoming calls are transcribed by Live Voicemail, allowing you to choose whether or not to answer.

The Journal app on iOS 17 is a private tool that allows you to jot down ideas and store photographs throughout the day. It also employs machine learning to make personalised recommendations depending on your activity.
