Google has announced it will delete personal accounts and their data if they have not been used or logged in for at least two years.

The new policy, which aligns with industry standards around retention and account deletion, applies to inactive accounts within Google services, including YouTube.

The company will begin deleting accounts in December 2023. Before deleting an account, Google will send multiple notifications over the months leading up to deletion.

The policy only applies to personal Google Accounts and not accounts for organisations like schools or businesses.
