Meta is planning to allow more people to create numerous Facebook profiles. It is the company's latest effort to boost posting and sharing on its social network.
As part of this test, certain Facebook users will be able to create up to five profiles, each of which will not require an actual name or identification.
Users may, for example, have one for friends and another for coworkers, each with their own feed. However, only one profile will be able to comment or like another article.
Meta is intensifying attempts to increase interaction on the largest social network in the world, whose growth has slowed, particularly among younger people.
Facebook has given several profiles in the past, albeit in a restricted capacity. For years, public celebrities, for instance, have been able to manage several profiles, and the firm has also permitted consumers to create separate identities for dating or college.
According to the firm, additional accounts are still expected to adhere to Facebook's content regulations and will be linked to a user's primary account, so rule violation on one will affect the others.
When establishing student profiles in 2020, Meta executives stated that users desired interactions based on more particular interests than those found in their primary social experience.
According to the spokesman, Facebook expects that with several profiles, people would build separate identities for their various interests, such as gaming, travel, and food.
The test will not affect how Meta calculates its monthly or daily totals of active users, which are reported during profits. For the time being, the multiple-profile initiative is merely a test and comprises users from the United States and a few other nations.
