There is intense debate over how AI should be governed, and EU lawmakers hope to form a draft on AI rules by March 2023. The rules will aim to tackle concerns around ChatGPT and the likes.

One area of contention is the definition of general purpose AI, which is seen as high risk by some.

The lawmakers believe that in 2023, there are going to be some exponential leaps forward not only for ChatGPT but for a lot of other general purpose machines. So, they are trying to write some basic rules ensuring judicious use of this technology.
