In what can be a major blow to Team India and to the Kolkata Knight Riders, Shreyas Iyer is likely to undergo surgery for his back injury.

According to a report in the Times of India, the middle order batter is expected to have his surgery either in London or somewhere in India under the strict guidance of the BCCI.

The report further stated that Iyer is expected to be out of action for at least 5 months after his surgery, which effectively rules him out of IPL 2023 and the World Test Championship final in June.

It will be tough for him to find a spot in the 2023 ODI World Cup in October, as well as Team India, is unlikely to consider the batter without playing him in the build-up to the tournament.
