India's premier weightlifter Mirabai Chanu will be on a five-month break to work on strengthening her rotator cuff and shoulder.

She will be back in action at Asian Championships meet in May.

The Tokyo Olympics silver medallist participated in World Weightlifting Championships through the dodgy wrist and went on to claim Silver in the women's 49-kg category

With Chanu being India's biggest medal hope at Paris Olympics, her support staff has decided to give the 28-year-old champion much-needed recovery time ahead of Olympic qualification rounds.

The 2024 Olympics qualification round already started with the recently-held World Championships in Bogota.

Notably, the Manipuri weightlifter won her second medal at the Worlds after previously securing a historic gold in the 48-kg category at the 2017 edition.
