Rugby became the second sport to ban transgender women after the world swimming body FINA voted to restrict the participation of transgender athletes in elite women's competitions.
After the newly imposed ban by the International Rugby League (IRL), transgender players will be not allowed to compete at the women's World Cup in England later this year.

The IRL said in the statement that they need further consultation before finalising their transgender policy.
Swimming was the first international sport to ban Transgender women.

Meanwhile, World Athletics and FIFA are currently reviewing their transgender policy as well.
In a conversation with the BBC, World Athletics president Sebastian Coe hinted that they could follow FINA's move, adding that 'fairness is non-negotiable'.
