Narinder Batra resigns as World Hockey president, gives up IOC membership

Months after the Delhi High Court struck down Narinder Batra's post of 'Life member' at Hockey India, the veteran sports administrator resigned from various key positions on Monday. 

In three separate handwritten notes, Batra officially tendered his resignations from the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), International Olympic Committee (IOC), and International Hockey Federation (FIH). In his letter to the world hockey's executive board, Batra cited personal reasons for relinquishing his post at FIH.

Batra's position as IOA president ceased after Delhi HC's verdict given he contested the election at IOA based on his 'life member' post in Hockey India. Meanwhile, his membership in the International Olympic body was linked to the IOA presidency. 

However, his resignation from FIH came as a major surprise to many given in May Batra stated that he would not contest upcoming IOA elections and shift his focus to managing world hockey.
