Germany failed to take the top spot in Pool B despite thumping South Korea 7-2.

The Germans needed a victory with an eight goal margin in its final World Cup Pool B game to overtake Belgium.

Niklas Wellen's hat-trick steered the team to a resounding win but despite their brilliance on the night, they couldn't finish top.

As a result, Germany will now play France in the crossover tie to secure a quarterfinal spot
