Max Verstappen held off a late challenge from Carlos Sainz Jr. to win the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday and extended his lead in the championship standings. It was his sixth victory of the season.

The reigning champion moved 46 points clear of Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez, who was forced to retire with engine trouble.

Sainz had to settle for second place in his Ferrari, with 7-time champion Lewis Hamilton equalling his best result of the season in finishing third. It was just his first podium since the season-opening race in March.
