Dipika Pallikal creates history for India in squash, double gold in World Championships

Squash star Dipika Pallikal created history after winning two gold medals at the PSA World Doubles Championships in Glasgow on Saturday. Dipika won the mixed doubles gold with Saurav Ghosal and teamed up with Joshna Chinappa to win the women’s doubles final.

The pair of Saurav and Dipika defeated the English pair of Adrian Waller and Alison in two straight sets 11-6, 11-8 in 22 minutes. While the mixed doubles game was easy for the Indian pair, the Indian pair of Dipika and Joshna had to fight hard for the women’s doubles title. Dipika and Joshna won against another English pair Sarah-Jane Perry and Alison Waters 11-9, 4-11, 11-8.

This is for the first time that India won gold medals in Squash World Doubles Championships. Dipika Pallikal who gave birth to twins last year, made a stunning comeback with these wins. She is now aiming to make a big impact in the year of Commonwealth & Asian Games.
