Germany's Niklas Wellen had an endearing moment at the Hockey World Cup 2023, which the 28-year-old athlete will certainly cherish for life.

During Germany's match against Belgium in a Pool B encounter, Wellen's spectacular performance helped his side play a fighting 2-2 draw.

While his enthralling show earned him the Player of the match, his teammates adjudged him as the 'Daddy of the match' after Wellen got the news of becoming a father the same evening.

Just before the game began, he got the news of becoming a father. During half-time, the athlete saw his baby's picture, after which an emotionally overwhelmed Wellen cried a lot.

Wellen had first thought of not joining the World Cup squad to stay with his partner but he finally decided against it and joined the team in Odisha where the World Cup is taking place, informed coach Andre Henning.
