With just over a week to finalise the Indian contingent for Asian Games 2023, The Times of India has reported that the Indian Olympic Association has named over 800 athletes to represent the country at Hangzhou.

The report also stated that the Indian government has not yet decided the number of sports disciplines the country will participate in at Asiad.

The deadline to send names to the Asiad organizers was July 15.

Now, the IOA in tandem with the Sports Ministry will take a call on India's contingent, on the basis of medal prospects of teams and individual athletes and selection criteria.

After July 26, India cannot withdraw the names of any players as the final contingent list will be prepared by Hangzhou organisers.

For Hangzhou, India is slated to send its largest contingent ever for the marquee event that commences September 23. In comparison, India had sent a 524-member strong contingent to partake in 36 disciplines for the 2018 edition of Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.
