India needed to bat big on Day 3 and they did. The hosts were 289/3 at stumps on Saturday evening and now trail Australia by 191 runs in the 4th Test in Ahmedabad.
Resuming at their overnight score of 36/0, India lost Rohit Sharma for 35 but Shubman Gill carried on and smashed his 2nd Test hundred. He then stitched a 113-run stand with Cheteshwar Pujara, before the latter was dismissed for 42.
Australia then managed to get rid of Gill for 128. However, the slightest of openings was once again shut as Virat Kohli scored a fluent 59 not out.
Ravindra Jadeja also held one end and remained unbeaten on 16, as India avoided the follow-on.
