Pakistan have named their new captains after Babar Azam stepped down as the skipper of the national side, with premier pacer Shaheen Afridi given charge of the T20 side.  Shan Masood, meanwhile, has been given the responsibility of the Test side.

Earlier on Wednesday, Babar Azam, through a post on social media platform X, announced that he will no longer be the Pakistan captain. Babar, however, confirmed that he will continue to play all three formats for the country.

Shan Masood's first assignment will be a 3-Test series against Australia that begins in December. For Shaheen Afridi, his first series as captain will be a 5-match series vs New Zealand.

Pakistan haven't appointed an ODI captain yet since they will not play any 50-over cricket till November next year.

UPDATE: Shaheen Afridi has now been announced as the white-ball captain even though Pakistan don't play an ODI for another year.
