Barcelona and Spain midfielder Gavi is expected to be out for several months after suffering a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Gavi picked up the injury in the first half of Spain's 3-1 win at Georgia on Sunday in qualifying for the 2024 European Championship.

The 19-year-old was visibly distraught as he left the field and is expected to be a major doubt for the Euros next summer in Germany.

Barcelona said medical exams on Monday also revealed an injury to Gavi's lateral meniscus.

The club said the surgery will take place in the coming days and a new medical update will be released later. It did not give a timetable for the player's recovery, but the injury is expected to keep him from playing again this season.
