In a fresh instance of protest against Qatar's human rights record, a spectator ran onto the field at a FIFA World Cup match with a rainbow flag. The streaker interrupted the match between Portugal and Uruguay.

The demonstrator wore a blue Superman t-shirt with the messages "Save Ukraine", and "Respect for Iranian Women". Security officials chased, caught, and hauled the streaker off the field, but the rainbow flag was left on the pitch. The flag was picked up by the referee and kept on the sideline, from where a worker removed it.

The football tournament earlier saw a stand-off between the players and the organisers and host country. Seven European teams wanted to wear "One Love" armbands with rainbow colours, but were stopped by FIFA.

Fans have also alleged that they weren't allowed to enter stadia with items with rainbow colours, a symbol of LGBTQ rights.
