Roberto Martinez has decided to step down as coach of Belgium's national team after the 2nd ranked team in the world crashed out of the FIFA World Cup 2022.

The Spaniard announced his decision after the Red Devils played a goalless draw against Croatia which saw them finishing in the 3rd spot in Group F. At the post-match press conference after the Croatia match, the Spaniard said, 'this was my last game with the national team, I can't carry on.'

He, however, said that he had taken the decision before the World Cup started and would have resigned irrespective of team's performance in Qatar. Martinez who took charge of Belgium in 2016 guided Belgium to a third-place finish at the FIFA World Cup 2018 held in Russia.
