Leaving behind the embarrassment of their opening game, Argentina emerged victorious against Poland 2-0 in their final group C game at the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Though the Eagles were outplayed by Lionel Messi's side, they alongside their opponents too qualified for the next round at Qatar 2022 with the 2nd and 1st place finish in the Group C table.

The PSG star who was playing the 999th game of his career also went past Diego Maradona's Argentine record of most number of World Cup matches. While this was his 22nd appearance in the tournament, one more than Maradona.

The 35-year-old though missed a penalty in the 45th minute, Alexis Mac Allister and Julian Alvarez with goals in the 46th and 67th minute ensured a dominant win for La Albiceleste against a lacklustre Poland.

Meanwhile, Poland rode on luck to make it to the last 16. With a win against Saudi Arabia, Mexico also finished level on points with Poland. However, Poland qualified on the basis of better goal difference and they will next face France on December 4th.
