2 unwanted interruptions, one rare, another, a common occurrence, happened in India's 2nd T20I win against South Africa at the Barsapara stadium in Guwahati on Sunday.
A black snake slithered on the ground during the 7th over of India's innings, causing a 5-min delay until the groundsmen captured it in a bucket. Later one of the stadium's floodlights tower went off during the 3rd over of the SA innings, forcing players to go back to the dressing room since the delay lasted 18 minutes.
While the chaos at the Barsapara Stadium once again brought the Assam Cricket Association's poor management under scrutiny, it entertained the netizens full on.
While one of the Twitter users called the moment a 'grand debut', another said the snake was 'the new player on the field to watch out for.'From dubbing the snake as an ardent cricket fan to being simply amazed by the rarity of the situation, the netizens had hilarious analogies and snide remarks to make.
Some were even reminded of 2020 when India and Sri Lanka were playing and a heavy downpour stopped play at the stadium. The ground staff brought a hair dryer, steam iron, battery operated fans among other tools to dry up the pitch, and yet the match never resumed.
